Citrix Receiver is now available with Windows 10 S, the company has revealed, and because it’s been built with Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP) in mind, it’ll run on all versions of Windows 10 including Windows 10 Phone, PC, Surface Pro, IoT Enterprise, IoT Core, Surface hub and the HoloLens.
As Windows 10 S prevents anyone using apps not from the Windows Store, the virtualisation company released a special edition of Citrix Receiver for Windows 10 S, enabling users to use the full suite of XenApp applications across devices and, with the continuum dock, allowing them to use their device as a full Windows desktop thin client with Win 32 applications too.
“This way you can run your business critical apps and also get flexibility to run any other browser like Chrome or other search engine on browser like Google search, adding more value on top of the simple, secure, cost effective characteristics of Windows 10 S,” Vipin Borkar, Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop product manager, explained.
He added that the UI of Citrix Receiver offers native touch experience, allowing users to pinch to zoom and drag a window to reposition it, offering a more natural way of working.
“Citrix is excited with the release of Windows 10 S and the new Citrix Receiver for UWP,” Borkar said. “Citrix is invested with the Universal Windows Platform strategic direction from Microsoft; expect more exciting capabilities coming in future in this area!”
