Earlier this week Snapchat decided it was good banter to add a new filter. A filter coined “yellowface”.
Yep, you read that correctly. Twitter got hold of this and the #myyellowface tag quickly took off. This forced Snapchat to take down the filter and swiftly apologise, saying the filter was “inspired by anime, and was meant to be playful”.
This isn’t the first time Snapchat has misjudged the mood with its filters. In April, it released a Bob Marley filter, which in itself isn’t a bad thing. However the emphasis on marijuana and “blacking up” faces unsurprisingly ruffled a few feathers.
All in all, it’s safe to say it hasn’t been the best week for Snapchat.
